Councillors in the Midlands fall short in housing application.
Portlaoise councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley says local councillors need to question why a proposed housing development has been rejected in the area.
Last year Portlaoise Council applied for the development of 67 new homes being built in Tyrellsland.
Additional information was sent in at the beginning of this year.
An Coimisiún Pleanála has now rejected the idea of the development in Portlaoise.
The proposal was rejected for various reasons with Cllr Dwane Stanley highlighting the inconstancy of Laois County councils' application, saying "it doesn't look like we were within our own county development plan".
Reasons such as structural issues, heritage elements, trees and more were highlighted as issues which ultimately lead to the application not being successful.
However, Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley says getting the project back on track is now the priority:
With the rising population in Portlaoise, additional housing is a necessity for the area.
Local councillors have proposed a meeting to reassess and create a plan going forward.
Councillor Dwane Stanley reckons this is important as, "questions need to be asked about how we ended up in this situation".
