Commercial rates in Offaly are not the reason behind several recent local business closures.
That's the view of Independent Councillor for Birr John Leahy.
It follows a number of businesses closing in the Tullamore area, including Better Buys and Carinas.
The owners of Better Buys in Tullamore pointed to the cost of commercial rates as a reason behind their closure.
20% of the overall budget for the council - around €18m to €20m - is generated through these rates
