Resuming Westmeath Flood Alleviation Works Isn't Worth The Risk To Life

A local engineer says more people are dying from covid-19 than from flooding.

A Westmeath engineer is strongly opposed to calls for flood alleviation works to resume.

OPW Minister, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, is urging the Taoiseach to deem the construction of flood gates in Athlone as 'essential', to ensure the works are completed by the end of the year.

However, Athlone's John McNamara says he's horrified by the suggestion, with a pandemic currently taking hold of the country.
