A retired Laois prison guard turned poet during the pandemic is paying tribute to his creative writing classes after winning a international poetry prize.
Portlaoise's Mick Morrisey penned "Homeless", tackling homelessness and immigration based on his experiences of working in London as a teenager.
The piece is taking home the prize at this year's Darby Ryan International Poetry and Song of Peace contest.
