Consultants at the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar have raised concerns over the closure of the neighbouring hospital's A&E.
Fine Gael says the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar would only receive a very small number of critcially ill patients diverted from Navan Hospital.
Junior Minister Damien English is making the comments after midlands consultants wrote to the Health Minister to say care in the Westmeath facility will be compromised if plans for ambulances to bypass Navan A and E go ahead.
He says he's aware there's no capacity in Mullingar to take on more patients.
