82% of deadly fires occur in homes without a working smoke alarm.

The number of Chimney fire incidents are on the rise.

It's one of the key messages this Fire Safety week.

People are being urged to clean their chimneys, keep gas cylinders outside, and ensure they have a working fire alarm.

According to the Department of the Environment, 82% of fatal fires are in homes with no working smoke alarm.

Pat Hunt, Acting Chief Fire Officer for Westmeath, says there's a number of steps a person can take to ensure they're safe at home:
