Road Fatalities On The Rise In Westmeath

The number of road deaths compared with this time last year has doubled.

Twice as many people have died on Westmeath roads, compared to this time last year.

The latest Joint Policing Committee meeting has found there were four road deaths in the county in the first six months of the year.

That's an increase of two on the same period in 2022.

However, serious injuries have seen a substantial drop, from 10 last year to just two this year.

121 cases of driving while intoxicated represented a five per cent increase on 2022.

While a total of 206 vehicles had to be seized.
