Caroline Blake was making a cup of coffee when the bolt hit Birr.
A woman in Co Offaly says wearing runners saved her from serious injury after she was struck by lightning at her kitchen sink.
53-year-old Caroline Blake says she was making a cup of coffee when lightning struck her house in the village of Crinkle near Birr on Tuesday afternoon.
Doctors at the Midland Regional Hospital told her the rubber in the soles of her runners saved her, as well as the fact she'd kept her feet firmly planted on the ground.
It's thought a bolt struck an outside tap, which is connected to the sink inside.
