Rural Development Minister Committed To Supporting The Midlands Amid Bord Na Móna Closures

He says his department will do whatever is necessary to minimise pressure.

The Minister for Rural Development says he's committed to supporting the midlands amid Bord na Móna job losses.

The West Offaly Power Station in Shannonbridge will close next December, as part of the government's decarbonisation plans.

Minister Michael Ring says a taskforce and the recently appointed Just Transition Commissioner are working to find employment alternatives for those affected by the end to peat generation in the midlands.

He says his department will do whatever is necessary to regenerate the region and minimise the impact of the power station's closure:
