The number of drivers caught for speeding last year fell by 12,000.
The most recent Garda figures for the first 11 months of 2023 show almost 8,000 motorists were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs - a drop of 3%.
However, detections for using a phone while behind the wheel are on the rise - up 2% compared to 2022.
