The town has not had a parade the past three years due to Covid.
Due to Covid, Portlaoise has not had a St Patrick's Day parade the past three years.
The St Patrick’s Day Committee today announced that the Portlaoise Parade is going to be returning this year.
The parade will see the return of numerous floats, music, entertainment, trade stands, Irish dancing and much, much more on Friday 17th March.
The Parade will be commencing from Laois County Council at 12.30pm on Friday 17th March and going up the Main Street (from the bottom to the top square) and expected to finish at 2.00pm.
The Parade will be followed by a Community Event on Main Street, Portlaoise involving Street acts, Irish Music, Trade Stands, Irish Dancing and much, much more.
The Chairperson of St Patrick’s Day Committee Dominic Dunne said:
‘This is going to be a great event and it will be a major boost financially to the town, but of course also great morale for everyone living in Portlaoise and the surrounding areas of Laois’
A fundraising table quiz will also be held in Kavanagh’s Bar, Portlaoise on Friday 10th March to help raise funds for this event.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
The committee thank everyone involved in helping to ensure the parade will be a successful event, with particular thanks to Laois County Council. The committee are also delighted that Laois Volunteer Centre will help in sourcing volunteers to help with a collection day as well as stewarding on the day of the parade.

The St Patrick’s Day committee consists of old and new members who meet weekly in Portlaoise Parish Centre.
The members include: Chairperson and Events Co-Ordinator, Dominic Dunne; Secretary, Pauline Flanagan; Treasurer Eugene McDonagh, Paul Downey MC, Christy Bannon MC, Frank Ward, PJ Kavanagh; Wayne Haslam, Councillors Catherine Fitzgerald and Noel Tuohy and will continue to meet leading up to the event in order to ensure maximum enjoyment and safety for all concerned.
