Councillors in Westmeath are calling on the Department of Social Protection to address an issue with the community employment scheme.
Frankie Keena says officials are taking a stricter approach when determining conditions for the scheme, resulting in sponsors terminating the contracts of participants early.
Those who take part receive an extra €1 per hour more than if they were on jobseekers benefit.
