Stricter Rules With CE Scheme Causing Issues In Westmeath

An Athlone councillor says sponsors are terminating early. 

Councillors in Westmeath are calling on the Department of Social Protection to address an issue with the community employment scheme. 

Frankie Keena says officials are taking a stricter approach when determining conditions for the scheme, resulting in sponsors terminating the contracts of participants early. 

Those who take part receive an extra €1 per hour more than if they were on jobseekers benefit.
