Sinn Fein's Caroline Dwane stanley believes people will be left homeless as a result.
Council tenants face being homeless by September because of a "subtle and sneaky" change to how maintenance payments are calculated.
That's the warning from midlands Sinn Fein councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley.
The payments are now being included in a person's income, meaning it could push them over the threshold for social housing.
The Portlaoise rep says she's dealt with three cases in the last fortnight of people at risk of homelessness because of this unannounced change:
