Tánaiste Believes Planned IPAS Centre For Westmeath 'Too Big'

Athlone Councillors are in a High Court battle with the State over a planned IPAS centre in Lissywollen.

The Tánaiste is weighing in on the controversy around a planned 1,000 person capacity Asylum Seeker centre in Westmeath.

Four Athlone Councillors are currently locked in a High Court battle with the State over the Lissywollen project on envrionmental and planning grounds.

However Simon Harris believes the development would be too big, and communities should have more of a say in the planning process.

The latest High Court hearing saw the State deliver an outline of their plans - it's understood the legislation may be ready in November.
