Accommodation for students is on the agenda ahead of the new academic year.

The President of TUS is highlighting student accommodation as the biggest problem facing higher education in Ireland.

This comes after students at the University of Galway staged a sleep out in Eyre Square over the accommodation crisis.

While the situation isn't as bad in Athlone, TUS President Vincent Cunnane says he doesn't have the capacity at this time in order to build further accommodation for students attending college.

The university group announced this week plans to spend €750m on its campuses across the country.

He says the rent to room scheme has been a huge help to the university:
