The Offaly Junior Minister is one of two who have declared their intention to run for the leadership position so far.

The Green Party needs to be relevant in the midlands again, according to one of its leadership hopefuls.

The party lost all three seats in the region in the Local Elections, despite running nine candidates.

Offaly Junior Minister Pippa Hackett is vying to replace Eamon Ryan, and is competing with Children's Minister, Roderic O'Gorman, so far.

Nominations opened at 9am this morning, and will close on Monday night.
