There's concern over the knock-on effects from the mine's temporary closure.
SIPTU's to to start intensive talks with Tara Mines management in Navan in Meath today.
They'll discuss alternatives to its proposals to temporarily close the plant and lay off around 650 staff.
The union says it will try and work towards an outcome which will maintain the operation of the mine.
