Three Day Abortion Waiting Period Under Scrutiny In Leinster House

The Irish College of GPs argues that the three-day waiting period has no medical justification.

The abolotion of the three day wait rule before a woman can have an abortion in Ireland is currently being scrutinised in Leinster House.

The Irish College of GPs is telling members of the Oireachtas that in its view, there is no medical justification for the retention of the three day wait period.

It says the World Health Organisation advises against the use of mandatory waiting periods in abortion care. 

However Independent Offaly TD Carol Nolan is against its removal.
