The incident occurred before 7am this morning.
Gardai are investigating after a man was found unconscious on the side of the road in Laois.
Three men and one woman were arrested in relation to the incident on the Vicarstown/Ballybrittas road -- one has since been released.
An ambulance was called for the man and he was taken to hospital with non - life threatening injuries.
Gardai are asking anyone who was in the area between 5:30 and 7am to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on (057) 867 4100.
