A three-storey 19th century home in Laois is to be sold by the local authority.

Millbrook House, between Abbeyleix and Ballacolla, has been acquired by Laois County Council under a compulsory purchase order.

The council was unable to reach an agreement with the owner to complete essential work on the 9,000 square foot premises, which is set on 4.2 acres.

The building will now be sold by tender subject to the new owner weather-proofing it within limited period of time.
