The incident took place in the Ardleigh Park area of Mullingar on July 14th this year.
Two youths will stand trial over an accusation of carrying out a daylight 'slammer gun' attack on a home as part of an ongoing drugs feud in Westmeath.
The 16 year olds who cannot be named were in Mullingar District Court this week facing charges in relation to the incident in the Ardleigh Park area of Mullingar on July 14th this year.
Both boys are charged with recklessly discharging a firearm and causing a thousand euro worth of criminal damage to the front door of a property in Mullingar.
The Westmeath Examiner is reporting the court heard Garda testimony that two masked individuals walked up to the house, one armed with an improvised firearm, otherwise known as a "slammer" gun.
Gardaí say the suspect fired a single shot at the front door, and his co-accused recorded the incident on a mobile phone.
The alleged shooter was arrested a matter of minutes later, after he was held inside the shop by the supposed target of the incident.
According to Gardaí, the second suspect fled the scene and was arrested that evening following a search warrant which was executed at his home.
The state’s case is that the second teenager - who allegedly recorded the shooting - disposed of the firearm after his attempts to provide an alibi for the time of the incident were disproved.
The homeowner involved in the incident is apparently living 'in fear' of other similar type situation.
After considering all aspects of the case Judge Valerie Corcoran refused jurisdiction and both teenagers were remanded on bail to Mullingar District Court on October 23 for the servicing of a book of evidence.
