Unqualified Teachers Recruited To Meet Shortage Of State Exam Markers

It seems the role is no longer as popular among teachers as previously.

The Teachers' Union of Ireland is assuring the quality of state exams won't be affected by unqualified teachers marking the Junior and Leaving Cert.

Trainee teachers and non-qualified subject experts were drafted in by the State Exams Commission again this year as there weren't enough teachers to do so.

In 2019, 244 post-graduate masters in education students and 97 non-teachers corrected the exams, out of over 3,000 total examiners.

Secretary of the TUI, Tullamore's Michael Gillespie says the standard of the state exams will remain consistent:
