A recent vote saw all but one Offaly councillor back the project’s progression.
Urgent action is needed to build a hospice facility in the Midlands.
That's according to Councillor Oliver Bryant, who says plans for the proposed care facility have been dragging on for too long.
The proposal would see a 20 bed hospice care facility built in Tullamore town.
Councillor Bryant says there is a strong need for such a facility in the Midlands, but believes the idea has been discussed for long enough and that action is now required.
A recent vote saw all Offaly councillors, bar one, show their support for the project to progress.
Councillor Fergus McDonnell was the only councillor to object, saying he disagrees with the proposed site for the facility.
With the support of the majority of the council, the initiative can now move forward to the next phase.
The project will be carried out in partnership between the HSE and Laois, Offaly and Westmeath County Councils.
Councillor Bryant was the first to voice his support for the proposal, saying it is time to get things moving and make progress on delivering the much-needed facility:
The development is intended to provide hospice care for people across the Midlands, with the project now looking to take the next steps towards making the proposal a reality.
