The car was later involved in a hit-and-run.
The car at the centre of a Garda chase in Laois yesterday was involved in an earlier burglary.
Officers responded to a report of the alleged incident in the Whitfield Estate in Portarlington at around 11am.
The black Audi A3 then fled the scene, with Gardaí in pursuit, before being involved with a collision with a jeep on Bracklone Street.
The occupants of the car, four men, then fled the scene on foot through fields in the town.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident, and are asking anyone with any information that can assist them with the investigation to contact Portlaoise Garda Station at 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
