Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Expected To Reach 10,000

Laois' Juan Venegas has family who survived the earthquake.

The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela is predicted to rise to 10,000 people.

Satellite analysis by NASA shows almost 59,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged following two massive earthquakes last Wednesday.

More than 1,700 people have so far been confirmed dead, while 43,000 are still unaccounted for.

Venezuelan man Juan Venegas, who is now living in Portlaoise, has family who have survived the earthquake.

He says there is no insurance to cover the costs of the damage:
