It was recovered during an operation on Friday.
A viable device recovered by the Bomb Squad in Offaly will be disposed of in a 'protected manner.'
Gardaí and the EOD Unit were called to the scene in Castleview Park in Edenderry on Friday afternoon at around midday.
The area was cordoned off until the army removed the device, before clearing off a number of hours later.
The Defence Forces says their EOD specialists will now dispose of the item, as per their standard operating procedures.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the matter, and are asking anyone with information to contact Edenderry Garda Station.
