Offaly is one of six counties where there has been confirmed cases of the disease.

The Irish Wildlife Trust is asking people in the midlands to report rabbits and hares affected by a virus.

The RHD2 strain is not contagious to humans but it has been known to decimate colonies of rabbits.

Offaly is one of six counties where there has been confirmed cases of the disease.

Animals with the virus can die within days and symptoms include swollen eyelids, partial paralysis and bleeding from the eyes and mouth.
