Warning Of Crayfish Plague In Midlands' Waters

Samples have been taken near the village of Clonaslee on the Laois/Offaly border for the disease.

A potential outbreak of crayfish plague has been reported in the midlands.

Samples have been taken near the village of Clonaslee on the Laois/Offaly border for the disease, which devastates the crayfish population.

The crustaceans are among the main food sources for otters.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service are asking all water users to check equipment for plant and animal matter when moving between locations to prevent the spread of the infection.
