Water Pollution Affecting Endangered Species in Laois

The SWAN Action Group say the freshwater pearl mussel in Ireland could go extinct without proper water infrastructure.

Water pollution is a critical threat to an endangered species in Laois.

That's the view of Antoine McDermott from the Sustainable Water Network Action Group.

He believes poor water quality is affecting the freshwater pearl mussel in Ballyroan, following the EPA's annual report.

Towns in Laois, Offaly, and Westmeath were highlighted among 34 other areas across the country which had pollution contaminated local rivers and lakes.
