Ireland Falling Behind In Tree Planting Targets - Forestry Minister

The Junior Minister is hopeful we can hit targets in the coming years.

The Junior Minister in charge of forestry admits we haven't been hitting our tree planting targets in "recent years."

Offaly's Pippa Hackett says licensing backlogs and forestry payments rate which were "too low" to get farmers involved are to blame for the low levels.

Farmers can now avail of an annual payment of up to €1,100 per hectare to plant trees on their land.

But, the Green Party Senator is hopeful of hitting targets in the coming years:
