The Strand Carpark in Athlone is set to reopen after it was closed last year.
The latest step in a €114 million sewage drainage scheme in Westmeath is resulting in the return of a key ammenity.
The Strand Carpark in Athlone is set to reopen after it was closed last year to facilitate tunelling works for a project Uisce Eireann says is now 95% complete.
Cross-connection operations are taking place to link existing and new sewer networks while redundant pumping stations and older elements of the network are being decommissioned.
The project, when completed, will result in new pumping stations at Golden Island and Coosan West, and almost three kilometres of new underground pipes.
The system upgrade is expected to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the town, addressnon-compliant sewer overflows into the River Shannon, as well as increase the capacity of the network for future population growth.
