The Town Team for Castlepollard say that a minority of young people in the town are behind the actions.

Residents in a Westmeath town are preparing an open letter to the Garda Superintendent on antisocial activity in their area.

The Town Team for Castlepollard say that a minority of young people in the town are behind the actions, with local Gardai doing their best to address the situation.

In a statement on social media, town team member and Fianna Fail councillor for the Kinnegad area Alfie Devine says a recent upsurge in antisocial behavior, Vandalism and intimidation will not be tolerated.

He states the actions are being carried out by a certain number of youths known to local Gardai, who are stretched in resources and being pulled to cover a large area.

Some questions being posed to the Superintendent in the latter include a demand for a stronger Garda presence at weekends.

They also question how they intend to address intimidation of residents and businesses and ask for action to stop criminal damage, graffti, break ins and drug dealing.

Councillor Devine also stresses the group in question is only a small number of people carriyng out the actions,and that the Town Team will ensure that everything will be done to resolve the situation.
