Westmeath Councillor Calls For Government Action On Drink Spiking Protocols

There are no formal hospital guidelines for managing suspected spiking incidents.

A Westmeath Councillor who's family friend was a recent victim of drink spiking says he expects the government take action on the issue.

Currently, there are no protocols in hospitals for dealing with a suspected incident of spiking, while Gardaí don't have a specific category to record instances of drink spiking.

Fianna Fail rep Aengus O'Rourke and his colleagues in the Athlone Moate area have written to the Ministers for Health and Justice asking them to develop new legislation.
