Athlone rep John Dolan is highlighting the need for a heating alternative in the event of extreme weather.

A Westmeath councillor believes allowing modern fuel stoves to be fitted into new houses is a 'common sense' approach.

Fine Gael Councillor for Athlone John Dolan is calling on the local authority to allow solid fuel powered stoves in newer models.

It would allow the householder to have heat in times of power outages or extreme weather events such as Storm Eowyn.
