An Athlone Veterinary Laboratory is set for a 9.23m expansion as part of a series of investments by the Department of Agriculture.

The development of the Coosan facility will create 15 new jobs — doubling the current capacity.

In total 33.5m is being allocated to projects in Westmeath, Sligo, Kilkenny and Cork.

Construction is due to get underway in 2025 and will take three years to complete.
