Westmeath Leads The Way In Single Use Plastic Usage In The Midlands

Laois and Offaly are not far behind in the latest figures.

Householders in the Midlands will generate over 15,000 tonnes of single-use plastic packaging waste in 2019.

Research by Diluteze shows Westmeath homes will generate the most with 5,400 tonnes followed closely by Laois at 5,100.

Offaly is set to produce the smallest amount in the region at 4,700 tonnes.

The report shows a 30% increase in the sales of takeout and packaged foods in this decade, with disposable coffee cups, water bottles and takeout food packaging amongst the biggest offenders.
