A Westmeath man has been jailed for three years for the sexual abuse of his sister over 60 years ago.
79-year-old Seán Monaghan of The Harbour, Marketpoint, Mullingar in Westmeath pleaded guilty to the rape and indecent assault of his sister, Julie Fogarty, on dates in 1962 and 1963.
The court heard Ms Fogarty suffers from “repeated flashbacks” and says her life has been “changed forever in a bad way”.
Speaking outside court, her daughter Olivia O’Flaherty says it’s a bittersweet day:
