The plan is to fix issues on a section of the N52.
A public consultation is opening in Westmeath tomorrow on the second stage of a key road development scheme.
Three possible routes are being laid out by Westmeath County Council to fix design issues in place on a section of the N52.
The works focus on a specific section of the N52 north of Mullingar, between Delvin and Clonmellon.
Its current structure is a a single carriageway road which is narrow in size with poor sightlines, sharp curves and a special speed limit in place of 80 km/h.
The limit is in place due to safety concerns as 11 collisions have happened on the road between 2020 and 2024, more than double the national average for similar roads.
It's also not suitable in design for heavy goods vehicles and the volume of traffic that uses the road every day.
It's hoped the proposed Cavestown to Kilrush scheme can improve road safety, improve connectivity and support economic growth for the Midlands.
Three route options have been selected to address the issues and concerns on the road which will be discussed at a public consultation event alongside the project's progress.
It takes place tomorrow evening at Clonmellon Community Centre from 3 until 8, alongside the opening of the public consultation period on the routes.
Submissions will close on August 8th.
