Westmeath Regional Sports Complex Gets €7.5m Funding Boost

The Mullingar Regional Sports Complex will deliver a long-campaigned for swimming pool.

A planned regional sports complex for Westmeath is set to get a massive funding boost of €7.5m.

It's set to go to the site planned under the Blackhall Place Regeneration Project in Mullingar under the government's Town and City Regeneration Investment Fund.

It follows a previous €2m funding boost to secure design and planning for the complex, which will house a swimming pool, badminton courts and a multi-use sports hall.

In total, County Westmeath has been allocated €15.3 million, including:

  • €7.5m for the Athlone Riverside Cultural and Public Realm Regeneration project;
  • €150,000 for the Athlone Tourism and Cultural Quarter;
  • €150,000 for the Mullingar Southwestern Quadrant Regeneration Framework.

Minister of State and Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy is welcoming the news, saying the latest investment will allow the facility to be transformed into a "community and sporting facility."
