Westmeath Steakhouse Closing Down Over Rising Costs

JP's Steakhouse opened in Mullingar in 2011.

A popular Westmeath restaurant is pointing to the rising cost of doing business as its owners decide to close down.

JP's Steakhouse is closing down after nearly 15 years of serving customers in Mullingar.

Its owners say the cost of their beef has increased 96% in the last three years, vegetables are up by 50%, and insurance is up 30%.

They say after hearing further price increases were on the way they decided they could no longer make the business viable.

Management and staff at the restaurant are thanking customers for the "wonderful memories" and "special occasions" over the years.
