Former Labour leader Alan Kelly will not be backing the Independent TD.
A Westmeath Labour Councillor says former party leader Alan Kelly is entitled to back whoever he pleases for the Presidential Election.
This comes following the North Tipperary TD publicly denouncing his party backing former party member Catherine Connolly as their candidate.
Mullingar/Kinnegad rep Denis Leonard will be supporting the Independent woman, despite not agreeing with some of the Galway TD's international stances.
Mr Leonard feels that she fits the bill when it comes to her general principles.
He says he will vote for the person who will represent the country the best:
