
A hosepipe ban for the Mullingar Regional Public Water Supply has been extended until October.
A sustained period of rainfall is required in order to let ground water levels in Westmeath to fully recover.
That's according to Mairéad Conlon from Uisce Éireann, as a hosepipe ban in Mullingar, Oldcastle, Kells and Milford has been extended until October 13th.
Heavy rainfall in recent weeks has led to ground water feeding into lakes in areas like Lough Owel and Lough Bane, resulting in the extension of the ban which was meant to be lifted on Monday.
