A Westmeath woman who left her career as a paediatric nurse to support families of children with Down syndrome is calling on the public to back a charity ice cream fundraiser.    

Mullingar's Amanda Murphy now works with Down Syndrome Ireland as an Early Intervention Specialist, guiding families through early support services.   

The lack of information following her son Oisín’s diagnosis inspired her to help other parents facing similar experiences.   

She says her and Oisín are headlining the charity’s Ice Cream Fundays fundraiser this June to support children and families across Ireland:
