Over the last three years, almost €1 million has been raised through various fundraising efforts to buy the scanner - with the HSE committing to building a unit to house it.
Longford/Westmeath TD Robert Troy has brought the issue to the Dáil - seeking clarity on when the project will get underway.
He says the government must now deliver a timeline to those waiting on the unit:
