The Defence Forces have begun erecting fences in preparation for an influx of refugees at a former midlands army barracks.

120 male asylum seekers will be accommodated in 15 tents at Columb Barracks in Mullingar.

Concerns were raised last week about the lack of consultation with the community and the local groups and organisations which use the facility.

Helen Donnelly from the Columb Barracks Restoration and Regeneration Committee says one of those, which supports people with disabilities, has already been impacted:
