Work are getting underway on a Westmeath tourism attraction.
Consultants are being brought on board to start lighting upgrades for Athlone Castle and its visitor centre.
The site is closed until next autumn at the earliest, to carry out an €3.2m planned upgrade under Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism Scheme.
Other works are set to focus on mechanical systems in the castle and changing the layout of the visitor centre,
