The victim of the world’s first recorded road death will be remembered in Offaly this weekend.

Ferbane’s Mary Ward was riding in a steam carriage built by her cousin Charles Parsons, when she fell to her death from the front of the car.

A walk to commerate the 150th anniversary of her death will take place in Birr tomorrow and it will trace her fatal journey on August 31st 1869.

And it will be followed by the launch of the reprint of The 42 year old’s book ‘Sketches with a microscope’.
