A narrow defeat to Wexford leaves Athlone 11 points off the top.
Athlone Town's winning run in the Women's National League ended at six victories on Saturday.
They travelled to second-placed Wexford Youths where a Róisín Molloy goal in the second half wasn't enough to stave off a 2-1 defeat.
Athlone stay third in the table, but are now four points behind Wexford in second, and 11 points behind leaders Shelbourne.
