The session marks the McLaren's junior's best qualifying this season.
Offaly teenager Alex Dunne has qualified his car inside the top ten for the first time in the Formula Three World Championship.
The Clonbullogue racer has shown prodigious race pace throughout the season so far, but difficulties in qualifying have restricted him to just two points finishes from the opening eight races of the campaign.
Dunne will start from fourth in the reverse grid race in Barcelona tomorrow at 9.35am Irish time, and will line up in ninth for the feature race on Sunday morning at 9am.
Australia's Christian Mansell claimed pole position for Sunday's feature race.
