Johnny Murray's side ran out 1-8 to 10 point winners against Coralstown-Kinnegad in TEG Cusack Park on Saturday.
The Downs trailed last year's beaten finalists heading towards half time, only to go in at the break a point to the good after Ian Martin finished off a counter attack that started with The Downs crossbar preventing a Coralstown Kinnegad goal.
